Camden councillor Jonathan Simpson – former Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Hampstead and Highgate, Lib Dem GLA candidate for the Barnet and Camden constituency in 2004 and until now Lib Dem group whip in Camden – has left the yellow party to join Labour:
I have been increasingly disillusioned with the effectiveness and seriousness of the Lib Dems for some time and that has become more evident since I was elected as a councillor. In terms of policies Labour has shown the lead in many areas with the Lib Dems floundering. The Lib Dems stance on crime and anti-social behaviour is weak and on the economy, I was very disappointed with their opposition to the minimum wage.
